NLC CDNY held our 2nd Institute weekend February 20-21. We were thrilled to have both local and national communications experts join us for in-depth training sessions.
Sarah Langhinrichs kicked off the weekend with an introduction to digital campaigning and successfully navigating social media. Libby Post helped the Fellows build their understanding of strategic communications in advertising. Jeff Pearlman,Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul’s Chief of Staff, taught the Fellows how to write a speech that moves your audience.
We were lucky to close the weekend with an in-depth Communications Training from Richard Fowler. Richard Fowler is an American radio show host, media personality, and political activist. He is the host of the nationally syndicated liberal talk radio program, The Richard Fowler Show and also serves as the Interim Director of Generational Alliance.
Courtney Madden, NLC’s National Programs Director, also stopped by and met the Fellows.
Kimberly Segura, 2016 Fellow, reflected on her experience at our second Institute weekend:
“Before I applied, I knew the New Leaders Council Institute training would be an engaging and rewarding experience. The Communications Weekend did not disappoint! Each presenter has such a unique and diverse background. Those experiences were able to reinforce the importance of effective communication through political advertising, social media, speech writing, and presentations. It was especially beneficial that the presenters brought a balance of New York State and national experience to see how these skills can be translated across a wide audience. This weekend was fantastic and I look forward to the upcoming Institutes so I can continue learning vital career and life skills.” –Kimberly Segura, 2016 Fellow
