At this month's Institute, the Fellows learned all about about fundraising and progressive policy.
Saturday was an action-packed day and we were thrilled to be joined by many insightful presenters including Alithia Rodriguez-Rolon, Legislative Representative at NYSUT, who provided an overview of the history and current state of the labor movement. Brian Quail from the Board of Elections taught us about campaign finance reform. Michael Kink, Executive Director at Strong Economy for All Coalition, presented on the current landscape of economic inequality and the steps necessary for reform.
Yesterday, Michael Weidrich, Executive Director & CEO of the Pride Center of the Capital Region, led an interactive session on non-profit fundraising where the Fellows practiced making the ask. We were also fortunate to be joined by Senator Gustavo Rivera who shared valuable insight on running a campaign and political fundraising.
"One of the many reasons I applied to the NLC was to learn new professional skills and this Institute weekend provided just that. Presenters engaged us in meaningful discussions regarding ethics and campaign finance and trained the class on different aspects of fundraising. I especially enjoyed learning from one of the current fellows and the not-for profit pitch challenge. I am looking forward to our next Institute weekend." -Rosa Mendez, 2016 Fellow
